Dog Days of Summer

We rented a cabin in Lake Tahoe over Labor Day with friends of ours. Although the cabin was not as nice we thought it was going to be, we still had a great time.

Charlotte had a great time playing with her birthday buddy, Samantha (although Sam's a year younger exactly).

They pretty much played together the entire time, taking baths together every night and watching Dora the Explorer on Elizabeth's Kindle Fire.

We hit the shore on the first day, which was a short walk away.

Charlotte loved the sand, but not so much the water. It was a bit chillier than she was used to.

Sam and Charlotte both adored the hot tub. Actually, we all did (minus Elizabeth, who is pregnant and didn't bring a bathing suit).

You're probably thinking - what about the Phoeber-Bieber? She was around, just sleeping a lot. She was taking a nap when we went to the beach, and she was napping the first day we were in the hot tub. However, she had an absolute blast in the hot tub the next day (it was not too hot, just around 100 degrees). Phoebe loves the water so much, we're all convinced she's going to be a swimmer some day. She also slept great at the cabin, despite being in the bedroom directly below where the living room was (and you could hear every movement and conversation people made). By the way, Phoebe is so close to crawling. She rolls all over the room, but when she wants something she'll get up on her hands and knees and furiously move those legs; she's just not actually moving forward yet. It's really fun to watch!

Don't you just want to eat those cheeks?
We shared a room with Charlotte, and it was not pleasant. She makes noises all night long - ranging from whimpers to full on talking in her sleep. And she knew we were right there so she would wake up in the middle of the night asking for things or saying she was thirsty or that she had to go potty. She also woke up SUPER EARLY every single night. On the last night, she somehow was lying perpendicularly on the bed, and because the room was so small, the bed was shoved against the closet doors. I woke up to her slamming her feet into the closet - she was sleeping while doing this, but it was loud enough to wake me up. I cannot wait until she and Samantha are old enough to sleep in one of those bunk bed rooms that so many Tahoe cabins have. That will be awesome!

All in all, we had a great time. We drank a lot of really good wine and ate a lot of really good food. It was nice to get away from the Sacramento heat, even if Chris and I didn't end up getting that much sleep. And I get to stay in South Lake Tahoe overnight next week after a meeting I have in Carson City, Nevada. I am really, really looking forward to a night away when I won't have any interruptions. Chris went to Cabo for four days for a bachelor party, and even though my mom was there to help out, I just couldn't help getting resentful of the fact that he was able to sleep through the night. It turns out, of course, that they didn't do much sleeping, but that's beside the point! That was a conscious choice not to sleep!
